Pixar's "UP" in Digital 3D

SM launched their first Digital Theater in Pampanga last August 7, 2009, located at SM City Clark Cinema 3. The opening was simultaneous with the kick off date of G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra.

I went to SM Clark that same day not having a single clue that the movie was already showing and we already have a digital cinema in Pampanga! I guess this is the consequence when you don't have a TV set, Internet connection and refuse to get out, even though the mall is a few blocks away. Unfortunately, I was not able to watch G.I. Joe in the digital screen due to shortage of money. But the urge to be able to watch in a digital cinema was too strong, so I promised my self that no matter what it takes I will enter cinema 3 and watch the next attraction.

August 24, 2009 12:00pm Malay Peninsula Standard time. At last, I was sitting inside the digital theater and I'm holding polarized eyeglasses. Why? Cause where watching Pixar's UP in 3D!!

To start off they previewed some of the up and coming animated films in 3D, like G-force and Toy Story 3. Then Pixar's famous lamp, Loxu, started bouncing on the screen to mark the beginning of "UP". For about 1 hour and 40 minutes, I was engrossed and felt for the characters. The story was about moving on and realizing that you don't need to go to far-off dangerous places to have an adventure, cause everyday life is an adventure.

The film was good and has the element of a Pixar movie. A good story line, lovable and funny characters, emotional upheavals, and of course flawless animation. However, it didn't made enough impact to out post any of my favorite animated movies.

As for the cinema, I was a bit surprised that the national anthem was not played even though it was the first screening. You will be cross-eyed at the beginning when wearing the glasses, it would take a few munites to get use to. Well, the 3D effect was not that stunning unlike in IMAX theaters, but for 200 bucks its suitable enough. I guess you just have to go nearer the screen to make the most out of it. All-in-all, the quality of the video and audio was clear and surround, a perfect combination for an amazing movie experience.
